My work explores the lived experience, investigating our human relationships with our surroundings, to uncover how these relationships affect our lives on both a personal and societal level, often in ways that go unnoticed.
My subject matter tends to exist within my daily surroundings, spaces which I imagine to be familiar to many people; the home, the garden, or the fringes of nature – but not the wilderness – these are spaces that we have imprinted upon.
My interactions with familiar spaces seek out the things that are missed or hidden from our societal point of view. With a camera, I can shine a light on what is hidden, to confront our perception of what we think we know. A combination of staged, and candid imagery is key to this process, enabling a feeling of the uncanny to question the incongruous reality that we live in.
