Glimmer

(2024-ongoing)

The way we experience spirituality is infinitely evolving. Alongside a global decline in traditional religious practices, there appears to be a movement towards a broader searching for spiritual meaning. Glimmer explores the interplay between spirituality and the modern world we live in today, and questions what it is we are really searching for.

Focussing on the experiences of young adults in Britain, portraits capture moments of spiritual engagement, while abstract images, mostly depicting the natural world, begin to reveal the spiritual intentions and desires of this generation.

These abstract images are initially collected from participants’ phone archives, recording moments where they felt a sense of spiritual wonder. Their low-res images are  re-photographed through the reflective and distorting surface of the phone screen. These images create a dialogue between the people I have photographed, and the spaces and objects which ignite our collective spirituality.
